Jolly Pets Barker Beds and Barn Dog logos

At Jolly Pets, we’re all about spreading love—and this Valentine’s Day, we’re continuing our commitment to finding forever homes for our canine friends. As part of our ongoing partnership with Barn Dog, experts in equine and canine grooming supplies, and our sister brand, Barker Beds, we’re thrilled to keep working together to help more dogs find their happily-ever-after in 2025.

Each month, we’ll highlight an adoptable dog from a different shelter, giving them the spotlight they deserve and raising awareness about the many loving pets still waiting for their perfect match. To make their adoption even sweeter, we’re gifting a special care package to the family who adopts the featured dog. The package will include grooming supplies from Barn Dog, interactive toys from Jolly Pets, and a gift card to Barker Beds for a comfy new bed with a 10-year warranty against flattening —a perfect way to help your new furry friend feel right at home.

Adopting a dog is a big, but life-changing decision, and we’re here to make sure the transition is as smooth and loving as possible. Through these partnerships with shelters and rescue organizations, we’re excited to continue bringing joy and love to deserving dogs and their new families.

Meet our February Feature: Opie

Say hello to Opie! This 1-year-old hound mix came to One of A Kind Pet Rescue (OOAKPR) all the way from Tennessee prior to Hurricane Helene's arrival. Opie was very scared and nervous about the seven-hour trip. He was quiet and well-behaved, but extremely nervous. He is finally starting to really open up and enjoy his time with the incredible staff at OOAKPR!

Opie is a handsome boy with a natural twinkle in his eye that’s sure to steal your heart! His adorable spotted nose is one of the many things the staff at OOAKPR has come to adore about him, and they're sure you will too. Still a young pup, Opie has plenty of playful energy and some classic puppy behaviors. He’d thrive in a home with another young, active dog of his size, as an older dog may have a harder time keeping up with his lively spirit. Currently weighing in at 45 pounds, Opie is mostly full-grown but may still fill out a bit more as he matures.

If you're searching for a playful, affectionate companion, Opie might be the one for you!

Visit One of A Kind Pet Rescue at 1929 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313 to meet Opie. Adoptions are done 100% in-person, so no appointments are necessary.

About One of A Kind Pet Rescue

One of A Kind Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization founded in November 2005 and is funded by private donations. The organization is dedicated to saving animal lives, rescuing pets in imminent danger of euthanasia, spaying/neutering, and adoption of homeless animals into appropriate, loving homes.

They are a no-time-limit shelter and no adoptable animal is euthanized. Many of our animals come from Animal Control Facilities (the pound) just prior to their scheduled euthanasia. Sick or injured animals brought to us by Good Samaritans are often given priority. Owner surrenders and strays are accepted when space is available.

One of A Kind Pet Rescue is committed to saving pets whose lives are in imminent danger of euthanasia. Examples include animals picked up by local government officials, the cats of an elderly person entering a nursing home, and the emaciated, stray dog roaming the streets.

How You Can Help

Adopt:

Adopting a dog is a life-changing experience for both you and the dog you bring into your home. Opie, along with many other dogs like him, are hoping to find a family to love and a home to call their own. If you’re ready to make a difference, consider adopting a dog from your local shelter, or visit One of A Kind Pet Rescue to meet their adoptable animals.

Remember, when you adopt, you’re not just gaining a new pet—you’re saving a life. And with the help of our partnership, you’ll be providing a loving home and a care package to help your new furry family member adjust to their new life with you.

Foster:

Not ready to adopt? That’s okay! There are plenty of additional ways to support dogs waiting for a new home. Fostering is a great way to support not only the animal, but the shelter as well by freeing up much-needed space for additional animals to receive the proper care they need while they wait.

Dogs in foster homes also get the chance to experience life outside of a shelter, allowing them to adjust to different family members and other pets. This provides the shelter or rescue with more information on which home would be best for them.

Donate:

If adopting or fostering is not possible for you, consider donating. Donations are a key part of many shelter and rescues ability to care for and feed the animals they house. By donating to shelters, like One of A Kind Pet Rescue, you are giving them the ability to access additional life-saving resources such as vet supplies and food.

Stay tuned for more adoptable dogs in the months ahead and learn how you can make a difference!
