June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month! There are many cats out there waiting to be adopted. If you’ve been considering getting a cat, now is the perfect time! Once you’ve considered all the responsibilities included in bringing home a new cat and decided you are ready to adopt, the next step is finding your new furry friend! Here at Kitty Kasa, we believe in helping every cat find its forever home. It’s important to us to help raise awareness for shelter cats in need of a loving family and so we decided to spotlight a local shelter and some of their adorable residents.

Portage Animal Protective League (APL) is the humane society for Portage County. As a private, nonprofit organization they rely on donations to make their work possible. They receive no government funding. They are committed to the rescue of animals that are abused, abandoned, sick, injured, or homeless and will do all they can to rehabilitate them and find them loving homes. They employ a humane agent who can investigate reports of cruelty and neglect and remove animals when necessary. Portage APL hosts low-cost mobile clinics to spay and neuter cats in their community. They have a pet food pantry to help people feed their pets. They are a no-time-limit shelter and keep adoptable animals as long as it takes to find them homes.

Here are some of their residents up for adoption:

Missy has been at Portage APL since January. She is about 3 years old and very sweet. She was rescued when some kind people fed and cared for her while she was a stray cat and eventually made her way to our shelter. She is FIV positive. She can live a long happy life with FIV and it is not considered contagious to other cats. She needs someone to give her a chance. After living outside and now in a shelter, she deserves a loving home! She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, given flea and worm preventative and microchipped.

Louise is just a sweetheart. She is about 3 years old and came in with another cat in December. The other cat has been adopted but she is still waiting. She would love a big cat tree where she can look outside at the birds and take a nap. She is on a special diet but has no other issues. She has potential with other cats and would be a great addition to a family. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, given flea and worm preventative and microchipped.

Mel's owner passed away in September and he has been with us since. He was an only pet, so he is very sad not to have a family anymore. He is a nice boy and is around 6 years old. He doesn't love to be picked up but otherwise is very friendly and kind. Nine months is too long. Can you give him a new home? He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, given flea and worm preventative and microchipped.

Sassy is a sweet senior cat who needs a soft place to land. Her previous owner dumped her in a field and left her to fend for herself. She is in her teens and has early kidney disease. She is friendly and playful, even for an old lady and very chatty. She is on special food for her kidneys and may have some arthritis. We still think she deserves a loving home where she can live the remainder of her life in peace. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, given flea and worm preventative and microchipped.
